Will Cook and
Craig Foster both had over 20 points but the Cameron men would fall to Angelo State 88-75 on Saturday at the Aggie Gym.
The loss for Cameron (9-8, 3-3 LSC) snapped a 13 game home conference winning streak that dated back two years exactly to this day.
"We talked about it before the game that they (Angelo State) had plenty of players who can step up and score," said head coach
Nate Gamet. "What really ended up hurting us is that players who are averaging 15, 20 points game combined end up getting 52 on us."
"The big thing I was disappointed in was our defensive effort. I thought we played with decent energy most of the game it just wasn't focused in the right manner."
Angelo State (14-4, 4-2 LSC) shot 59% from the field and bench their scored 42 points to end a five game losing streak against the Aggies.
Foster had his best scoring effort of the season to lead CU with 22 points and Cook scored all of his 20 points in the second half.
Cameron had no answers for ASU's Tommy Woolridge who went 9-11 from the field with 32 points to lead all scorers on Saturday.
Angelo State controlled the pace of the game after the opening tip and ran up a 10 point, 22-11 lead at the midway point of the first half. Foster carried the Aggies on his back getting 14 points but Angelo State shot nearly 58% from the field to take a 44-30 lead at the intermission.
In the second half, Cameron had a difficult time breaking through ASU's double-digit lead and jumped out by 18 points. The Aggies wouldn't go down without a fight and went on an 8-0 run to make it a 78-71 game.
After a pair of free throws by Angelo, Foster was fouled while making quick layup; he would collect the and one opportunity to close the ASU gap to six with a 1:20 remaining. Cameron could only put together one more point down the stretch as ASU would run away with the 88-75 victory.
Cameron only had five turnovers but was out-rebounded by the Rams 31 to 23.
The Aggies will be off until Saturday where they will be featured on CS-Houston at 4:30 pm against their rivals across the Red River, Midwestern State.
