Game Recap: Volleyball |

Evans reaches 1,000 kills in rout of SWOSU

LAWTON – Kat Evans became the ninth player in program history to record 1,000 kills in a career during a dominating performance by the Aggie Volleyball team Thursday night.  Cameron defeated non-conference rival Southwestern Oklahoma State 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-12), and moved to 14-14 this season.

Cameron came out from the opening serve and built a quick 5-0 lead, and then extended it to 9-1 after four straight points. After giving up a few points to SWOSU, the Aggies put together a five point run to extend the lead to 19-6. CU then closed out set one on a 6-3 run to win set one 25-9. Evans had five kills, while the team hit .483 with only one error, while holding the Bulldogs to a -0.027 hitting percentage.

Set two saw CU get out to another quick lead and never looked back.  Southwestern cut the deficit to five halfway through the set, but an Evans kill swung the momentum back in favor of the Aggies and two big runs led them to a 25-15 set two victory. Evans added four kills to her total and only needed two more to reach the 1,000 mark. As a team, CU hit .216 in set two and forced SWOSU to hit only .000.

Much like the first two sets, the Aggies came out firing and built a 9-1 lead right off the back. Evans' 11th kill of the night and her 1,000 of her career came midway through their early run where she took a ball of a set from Rebecca Green and fired it across court to reach the milestone. From there, Cameron never looked back and finished off the Bulldogs, 25-12 in set three.  The Aggies hit .500 in the final set with only one error, while the Bulldogs failed to hit .100 for the third straight set.

Evans finished the night with 14 kills and hit .367, while Kendra Adams added eight kills with a .467 hitting percentage, while also recording four blocks. Ingrid Boatman led the team with 22 assists, while Kayla Hebert added 13.  On the defensive side, Cristina Viera led the team with 13 digs, while Boatman and Lindsey McCauley had nine a piece.

In a match where the Aggies led the entire night, they hit .372 with 40 kills and only eight errors, while SWOSU hit .011 with 24 kills and 23 errors. CU also won the battle at the net, getting six total team blocks, compared to SWOSU's two.

Cameron closed out the regular season with the win over the Bulldogs and will now head to the Lone Star Conference Tournament. Their first match of the postseason will be on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 2:30 p.m. in Canyon, Texas against Texas Woman's.
