Cameron's season ends in LSC Tournament Semifinal

CANYON – Cameron took an early match lead but they would fall in four sets to Angelo State in the Lone Star Conference Tournament semifinal.   With the loss the Aggies will end their season with a 15-15 record while Angelo State moves to the LSC Championship game on Saturday with a 21-7 record.

In set one the Aggies held their own and stood toe-to-toe with Angleo State late after the Rambelles tied things up at 24.  Cameron didn't buckle and got the go-ahead kill from Rebecca Green and an ASU error to take the early match advantage.  As a team CU had 17 kills and a .200 hitting percentage to edge ASU who had 16 kills and a .188 hitting percentage.

Cameron continued to hang on and push Angelo back in the second set.  However, after a tie at 13 each ASU pushed back and went on a 10-2 run and tied the match at one each.

The Aggies looked to shake things off in the third set early with a 10-5 lead on ASU.  Despite the Aggie advantage, the Rambelles scored five unanswered to tie the set and from there both teams traded leads until they got stuck at 16 each.   However, Cameron would blink first in the showdown and Angelo scored nine of the next ten points to take the set 25-17.

In the fourth set, Cameron tried to dig themselves out the hole to force a fifth set and hung with ASU early but a pair of runs pulled the Rambelles away to the finish line to close out the Aggies night with a 25-17 win.

Kat Evans led the CU offense with 10 kills, while Cristina Viera and Jordan Escobar both added nine each; Paige Holt and Kendra Adams had eight kills each.   Lindsey McCauley paced CU with 14 digs, Kayla Hebert had 13 and had a double-double with 27 assists; Evans also came away with a double-double with 11 digs.

Cameron hit .138 with 50 kills and 25 errors, Angelo State had 66 kills, 21 errors, and a .273 hitting percentage.

Angelo State had five players with ten-plus kills; Zoey Hanrahan led the Rambelles with 5, while Brianna Sotello and Daeleigh Catile both put down 13 each.

With the 15 wins this season, the Aggie more than doubled their win total from 2013, and won their first postseason game in seven years.
