Men's Basketball Preview: Oklahoma Christian

LAWTON – After a 3-0 start to the season, the Cameron University Men's basketball team has dropped their last three road games, and will be back on the road this Saturday as they take on Oklahoma Christian. The Eagles have started out the season 2-3, after being picked to finish 10th out of 11 teams in the Heartland Conference Preseason Poll.

A quick look at the Eagles:
In their first five games of the season OC is scoring 64.4 points per game while allowing 62.8 points per contest to their opponents. They are shooting 43 percent from the field, 27 percent from three point range, and 65 percent from the charity stripe. The Eagles average 39.8 rebounds per game while allowing their opponents to grab 37.2 boards per game. They have a turnover margin of -2.2, giving up getting 11.4 takeaways per game but giving the ball up an average of 13.6 times. On defense, they average 3.6 steals and 3.2 blocks per game, while holding opponents to shooting 38 percent from the field.  Oklahoma Christian has two players averaging over 10 points per game in John Moon and Eric Randall. Moon is averaging 16 points and eight rebounds per game, while shooting 61 percent from the field and adding two blocks per contest. Randall is averaging 15.2 points per game and leads the team with 8.6 rebounds per contest.

Last time out: The Aggies went 0-2 at the Drury Classic falling to #4 Drury 78-71 and losing in overtime to East Central, 96-95. Against the Panthers, CU shot 43 percent from the field, but struggled from the three point line, as Jamaal Brantley paced the team with 21 points and Deondre Ray added 18 points. In the thriller against the tigers, the Aggies shot over 50 percent from both the field and from behind the arc, but missed free throws and turnovers led to the loss. CU had  five players in double figures, with Cameron Lee leading the team with 20 points, Desmond Henry and Ray both adding 18 points apiece, Bruce Barron chipping in 17, and Brantley scoring 10 points and grabbing nine rebounds.

Looking forward: Cameron is one of the top offensive teams in the Lone Star Conference, averaging 83 points per game, which is third best in the conference. They are second in the LSC with a .522 field goal percentage, and first in the league in shooting from behind the arc (.495). CU is third in rebounding with 40.3 board per game, are first in keeping teams off the glass, and are second with a rebounding margin of 9.8. Additionally, the Aggies lead the conference with 5.2 blocks per game, and are second in assists with 15.5 per contest. Deondre Ray is seventh in the league with 14.5 points per game, and is first in three point percentage with a .636, while Cameron Lee is second with a .625 and leads the LSC with 3.3 made three point shots per outing, while scoring 12.8 points per contest. Desmond Henry is seventh in the league with 6.3 per game and also averages 12.5 points per game. Additionally, Bruce Barron is fifth in the LSC with 3.7 assists and Tank Mayberry is second in blocks with 1.3 per game.

Up next: The Aggies will return home on Dec. 13 as they host Rogers State and then will be back in action on Dec. 16 when Bacone comes to the Aggie Gym.
