Box Score CANYON, Texas – The Cameron University women's basketball team couldn't keep up with #5 West Texas' offense to fall 83-57 in Canyon on Saturday afternoon.
Despite the score, the Aggies (11-12, 3-10 LSC) controlled the first quarter of the contest and led the Lady Buffs with over 50% shooting from the floor but cooled off as the game progressed.
Cameron had four players in double-digits with
Jade Herl leading the way with 13 points;
Jazzmine Robinson,
Christina Caddy, and
Chelsea Stamp all collected 11 each.
Stamp nailed three shots from behind the arc and needs three more three-pointers to break her own program record of 65 three-pointers made in a season.
The Aggies edged the Lady Buffs 37 to 36 in rebounds but WT controlled the floor with 49.2% shooting from the floor while CU went 41.2% on their end of the court.
Cameron took charge early and held onto a 24-23 lead of the Buffs with 8:42 left in the first half. However, Ags would cool off and only score three more points for the remainder of the half; West Texas would knockdown 17 on their end of the court to lead CU 40-23 at the break.
Things didn't improve for Cameron in the second half after the Lady Buffs launched a 20-2 run and doubled the Ags score 66-33. Cameron would get within 23 of WT in the closing minutes but they would fall 83-57.
The Aggies will return home on Feb. 19 to host Texas A&M Kingsville at 6 pm.
