ALLEN, Texas - Cameron trimmed down a 15 point Angelo State lead and got within two points late but they would fall to the Rams 64-59 in the Allen Event Center on Thursday afternoon.
Photo GalleryAfter scoring only 15 points at the half the Aggies responded back with a 44 point outburst in the final 20 minutes against the Rams who swept the regular season conference series with CU.
"Our guys played hard and executed pretty well for the most part defensively," said head coach
Nate Gamet. "To shoot it as bad as we did in the first half and to get within five points says a lot about what we did on the defensive end of the court."
"We went back to attacking the basket (in the second half), Des (Henry) is really good at doing that and some of the other guys stepped it up and sank some buckets for us."
"We had plenty of open looks but we just couldn't knock them down tonight."
As a group Cameron shot 33.9% on the floor (20-59) with only one made shot from beyond the arc out of 18 attempts. Angelo State made 19 buckets (36.5%) on their end of the court with four three-pointers.
Desmond Henry led the Ags with 15 points and eight boards,
Craig Foster in his final game had seven points and a career high nine rebounds. Foster would dish out six assists to give him 350 overall and second all-time in his four year career at Cameron.
Tank Mayberry was CU's second highest scorer with 11 points and he added six rebounds.
In the battle of the boards Cameron won 44 to 39 over Angelo State.
After an early pair of free-throws by Cook it would take 4:37 into the contest before Mayberry sank the first field goal by either team to lead 4-0; Angelo State wouldn't score until the 13:30 mark where they dropped three pointer and jumper swing out in front 5-4.

Trevor Smith layup snapped a six minute cold spell for Cameron from the field to get within two (9-7) with nine minutes left in the first half.
Both teams traded buckets but an 8-0 run by the Rams to close out the half gave them the 24-15 halftime advantage over Cameron.
Neither team shot the ball all that well at the intermission with CU going 15.4% (4-26) from the field, Angelo State went 28.1% (9-32) with Kenny Williams accounting for 13 points.
Out of the locker room Angelo State pulled away by 15 points but a 7-0 run by Cameron make it a 36-28 ballgame with 13:30 left. Cameron kept scraping and a Foster went coast-to-coast off of a steal to get the Ags within four of ASU 39-35 at the 10 minute mark.
The run continued for Cameron after
Desmond Henry dropped a layup and made the "and one" to get them two points away (42-40) from Angelo State.
Both teams traded 7-0 runs and Cameron remained two points away from ASU with just under four minutes remaining. Angelo State responded back quickly with a three pointer to end CU's run as they would go on to win 64-59.
Cameron's season will end an 11-15 overall record.
