SAN ANGELO, Texas – Cameron batters could only put together three hits as they would fall 6-0 to St. Mary's in the first game of the NCAA South Central Regional on Friday afternoon on the campus of Angelo State University.
With the loss the Aggies (30-10) will move to an elimination game against St. Edward's on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
"St. Mary's had a good pitcher with good movement and she tossed a great game," said head coach
Rodney DeLong. "I don't think we had very good plan for attack at the plate and I felt like we could have made some better adjustments."
St. Mary's jumped ahead with a sacrifice fly in the first inning; they would add two more runs in the next inning off of a 3-2 pitch that landed over the left field fence.
The Rattlers continued their attack on Cameron in the third with their second homer of the game to give them a 4-0 lead.
STMU would later add a run off a single in the fifth and a solo homer in the sixth gave the Rattlers a 6-0 lead.
Misty Dooley,
Carly Allerheiligen, and
Emily Nix were the lone Aggies who got a hit against the Rattlers.
Kelsey Watson (16-11) went five innings and gave up five runs (four earned) in the loss;
Sam Betts tossed the final three outs while giving up a solo homer.
"Obviously I wish we could have done a little better, but it was a good experience for us," said junior outfielder
Tara Martini. "We still have tomorrow so we got time and forget about today's game."
