DENTON, Texas – A hot second half and 20 point games from
Jazzmine Robinson and
Brandi Leal provided Cameron a 77-65 win at Texas Woman's University on Thursday night. The victory for the Aggies snapped a six game skid against TWU and will boost CU's record to 6-7 and 3-1 in the Lone Star Conference, the Pioneers will fall to 10-6 and 3-2 in league play.
The 77 point scoring outburst by CU was the largest against a Texas Woman's team since an 80-61 win on Jan. 17, 2004.
Robinson recorded her fifth double-double of the year with 26 points and 10 rebounds; she also added five assists to help spur the CU scoring. Leal had 20 points, one short of a Cameron high, but her six three-pointers were.Â
Charron Montgomery had her second double-figure day in a row with 12 points; in the last two games she is 10-11 from the field and at the charity stripe.
Cameron shot 53 percent from the field and went 65 percent from long range with 11 made triples. On the other side of the court the Pioneers failed to have any category above 40 percent with 34 percent shooting from the field, 38 percent at the arc, and 39 percent at the charity stripe with 20 missed free-throws.
The Aggies did lose the rebounding battle by five with TWU picking up 42 boards, 22 of which were on the offensive end.
Texas Woman's had three in double figures with Kensha Saygo netting 20 points.
After the leading for the first three minutes, Cameron surrendered their advantage to TWU and began the process of keeping within reach. The Pioneers stretched out their lead to eight points with four minutes remaining but the Aggies silenced TWU for the reminder of the half and Robinson scored six on her own to only give TWU a two point, 37-35 advantage at the intermission. Â
The Aggies were deadly from downtown early with six three-pointers and Robinson already in double-figures with 14 points.Â
Quickly in the second half both teams traded the lead and after a three-pointer from
Briana Underwood six minutes into the half, Cameron took a 47-46 lead. The Aggies continued to stay hot and managed to pull out in front of the Pioneers by 15 points with six minutes to go.   However, the contest was far from over and four CU turnovers allowed Texas Woman's a way back into the contest and eight unanswered points would make it a 70-64 Cameron lead with 3:40 left.Â
DJ Vallier changed CU's luck with a layup a minute later and the Aggies would ice the game at the charity stripe for the road win.

Cameron's busy week will continue on Saturday where they will host Tarleton State at 2 p.m.
