LAWTON– Cameron took the match into a fifth set, but the Aggies could not hold on as they would fall 3-2 to Texas A&M-Kingsville (22-25, 22-25, 25-15, 25-20, 10-15) on Saturday afternoon. The loss puts the Aggies at 13-6 on the season and 4-6 in Lone Star Conference play.
The Aggies had two players achieve a double-double on the match. Senior
Kat Evans led the Aggies in kills with 16 and had 18 digs to grab her eleventh double-double on the year. Freshman
Tori Luckenbill achieved her seventh career double-double after contributing 49 assists and 10 digs.
Cameron ended the match with 62 kills, a .167 attacking percentage, and 87 digs, while Texas A&M-Kingsville had 52 kills, a .182 hitting percentage, and 91 digs.
In set one, Cameron held a 13-9 lead until four straight errors Aggie errors tied the set at 13. Evans put down a kill, but the set knotted again at 14 off an Aggie attack error. With Ashley Bukowski at the service line, TAMUK then went on a four point run to grab the lead, 14-18, following two aces, a kill, and a CU error. Cameron would catch up to tie the set at 22, but a Javelina kill and two Aggie errors awarded TAMUK set one, 22-25.
Set two saw 11 tie scores and six lead changes. The final tie of the set came at 14-14, as the Javelinas went on a four point run to take the lead, 14-18. TAMUK took set two, 22-25 paced by 14 kills and a .273 hitting clip.
The Aggies began a comeback in set three. With the board knotted at two, Cameron went on a nine point scoring chain to lead, 11-2. Cameron retained its lead for the entirety of the set to stay alive, 25-15. CU put down 12 kills and a .300 hitting clip while holding TAMUK to eight kills and a .000 attacking percentage.
Back and forth action dominated set four with 11 tie scores and four lead changes. Cameron pulled ahead, 15-12 on a six point run, but the Javelinas caught up to tie the score at 15-15. However, the Aggies would grab back their lead and win the set, 25-20, paced by 17 kills.
The match went into a fifth set with Cameron leading. The set tied for the third and final time at 10-10 before the Javelina's scored five consecutive points off of four kills and a CU attack error to take set five, 10-15.
Texas A&M-Kingsville (16-9) was led by sophomore Krystal Faison who achieved a double-double with 16 kills and 25 digs.
Cameron volleyball returns to Aggie Gym at 7 p.m. on Oct. 27 for a LSC match with West Texas A&M.
