Aggies fall in sweep against Tarleton State

LAWTON– The Cameron volleyball team fell in three sets to Tarleton State (17-25, 22-25, 14-25) on Saturday afternoon. The Aggies close out the regular season with 16-9 overall record and a 7-9 league record. With a 15-1 league record, Tarleton State is the Lone Star Conference Champion, earning the top seed in next week's conference tournament.

Senior Kat Evans and freshman Paige Dixon led the Aggie offense with seven kills each. Evans also had nine digs in her final match in the Aggie Gym. Earning her first career double-double, freshman Madison Holle contributed 21 assists and 13 digs for the Ags. Cristina Viera led in digs with 14 on the match.

Tarleton State had 47 kills on the match, 18 of which were from Hailey Roberts for a team high, while the Aggies notched 27. The TexAnns hit a .223 clip compared to Cameron's .089 attacking percentage and also had four more team blocks over the Aggies with eight.

Cameron got off to a strong start in the first set after back-to-back Tarleton State errors gave CU the advantage. The set tied at two, but the Aggies held their lead with TSU coming within a point. The Aggies would score three consecutive points off of TSU attack errors and a kill by Jordan Williams to strengthen their lead; however, the TexAnns answered back with three points of their own following two kills and an ace.

A CU error tied the set at seven, and a Tarleton ace gave the TexAnns the lead. The set knotted for a final time at eight off a TSU service error, but the TexAnns propelled forward, never letting off their lead. TSU would win the first set 25-17 paced by 16 kills and a .222 hitting percentage.

Tarleton State's momentum carried forward as they jumped to a 5-0 start in set two. The TexAnns retained the lead for most of the set, but at 20-16, CU went on a four point chain to tie the set at 20 powered by kills from Evans and Williams. Both sides traded kills to even the set once more at 21 before two Aggie errors and a TSU kill put the TexAnns at set point. Evans put down a kill for CU, but Tarleton answered back with a kill to take the second set 25-22.

CU's Evans began set three with a kill, but Tarleton State tied it up with a kill from Roberts. TSU would gain the 5-1 advantage after knocking down four kills and a service ace. Tarleton State's offense remained solid as they would hold their lead, winning the third set 25-14 paced by 20 kills and a .436 hitting clip.

Cameron will face Texas A&M-Kingsville on Nov. 19 at 5 p.m. for match number-three of the Lone Star Conference tournament hosted by Tarleton State.
