EMPORIA, Kan. – Cameron could not make up ground following a slow first quarter and they would fall on the road on Tuesday night to top-ranked Emporia State 86-50. The Aggies could only put together four points in the first 10 minutes and trailed by double-figures the rest of the evening to the Lady Hornets.
"We couldn't get down some shots early and you can't get too far behind a good team like the one we faced tonight," said head coach
Tom Webb. "You've got to play a full 40 minutes and we didn't execute early, our kids know that.
"We've put this one behind us; the team is ready and excited to get back out on the court play on Saturday."
Nearly everyone on CU's roster got playing time with 13 players scoring;
Natalie Halbleib led the Aggies with nine points on a night that the team shot a cold 25% (16-64) from the field.
From the arc, the Aggies went 5-23 with
Brandi Leal going scoreless for the first time in her Aggie career.
Emporia State outscored the Aggies in each quarter and shot 47.8% (32-67) from the field and they went 10-25 from the arc. The Lady Hornets dominated the rebounding battle over doubling CU's total
with 55. Â For the night CU could only pull down 26 boards. Â
Charron Montgomery and Halbleib both led the CU rebounding effort with five.
Kelly Moten led ESU with 18 points with three others hitting double-figures.Â
In the paint, ESU picked up 34 points, while the Aggies had 18.  While in turnovers the Aggies had 17, five fewer than Emporia State, with CU coming up with 11 steals.
With the loss on the road the Aggies will now fall to 2-1, while Emporia State moves up to 3-0 this season.
Cameron will return to the court on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Aggie Gym to face Oklahoma Christian.Â
