LAWTON – Southwestern Adventist gave the Aggies a fight on Saturday and led for nearly a half but a 24 point effort from
Cameron Lee pushed the Ags to an 87-68 win to close out their non-conference season.
Lee hit six three pointers and was one point away from a career high for the Aggies (7-5) who will start Lone Star Conference action on a three game winning streak.
Jamaal Brantley was a rebound short of a double-double with nine boards and 17 points; he would also have a team high five assists. Lawton native,
James Cross had a career night with 14 points and he would have seven rebounds.
Cameron dominated the glass with 51 rebounds which was 31 more than the Knights. The Aggies also showed a strong inside presence with 48 points in the paint. From the field, CU shot 35-for-67 but went 32% from the arc. Southwestern Adventist cooled off in the final minutes and shot 23-for-58 on their side of the court.
The undermanned Southwestern Adventist crew carrying only eight players shot nearly lights out early on the Aggies sinking six three pointers and took a 30-25 advantage at the 7:30 marker. Cameron continued to trail the Knights into the locker room 43-38 with Southwestern Adventist hitting nine treys and shooting 55.2% on their side of the court. Over half of the Knights offense came from JaColby Harding-Crawford who had 22 points and six made three pointers.
Cameron continued to trail the Knights in the second half until Brantley sank both free-throws at the 13:33 mark to give the Aggies at 51-50 lead. However, the Aggie advantage was short lived and a SWAU trey and bucket forced the
Nate Gamet and company to call a timeout. Cameron couldn't get separation from the Knights until Lee hit back-to-back three pointers to give the Ags at 71-61 lead with seven minutes left and never looked back.
Southwestern Adventist (2-14) was led by Crawford who had 29 points.
The Aggies will return to action on Dec. 31 with a trip to Canyon, Texas to face West Texas A&M to open LSC play.
