CU finishes the weekend strong with two wins

CANYON, Texas – Cameron finished their weekend at the West Texas A&M Woodward Invitational on a high note with two more wins on Sunday.  The Aggies opened the day with a 6-3 victory over Chadron State and closed things out with a 14-7 win against Colorado School of Mines to finish the weekend 5-1 overall.

In a busy opening week of the season the Aggies finished 7-1 overall with their lone lost coming at the hands of Metropolitan State of Denver on Friday morning.

Tara Martini knocked in seven RBIs between both the contests and Macy McKay had four doubles to hit .833 overall on Sunday.  Paige Daino launched her fifth homer of the week in the afternoon game against Colorado School of Mines and has hit a .935 slugging percentage, with 16 RBI in the eight contests this week.

Kelsey Watson earned a win in game one going 6 1/3 innings with nine strikeouts recorded; Katelyn Craker would come in and record the final two outs against Chadron State for the save.  Sonora Zukerman earned her fourth win of the week pitching the last two innings against Colorado School of Mines.

In game one against Chadron State, the Aggies remained quiet with a 2-1 advantage until the bottom half of the sixth where they would hang a four on the scoreboard with McKay, Martini, and Chelsea DeLong all hitting RBI doubles.   Chadron State would manage to put to on the board and had the tying run on deck with Craker closing the contest out.   Both teams matched each other with nine hits; CU recorded the games only error.

Cameron dominated the first half of the game against Colorado School of Mines and went up 6-0 before the Orediggers put a seven spot in the home half of the fifth on CU starter Craker.

However, 11 Aggie batters would step to the plate as they blew the game wide open with eight runs.  Cameron didn't need many hits with four batters walking and Martini hitting an inside
the park grand slam homer with Daino smashing a two run shot to highlight the inning.

The Aggies would record 17 hits overall with Colorado Mines having eight; both teams would have an error.

Cameron will return to action on Friday with five games in three days at Mansfield, Texas.
