Slow start proves costly for Aggie women

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – A slow start by the Aggies allowed Midwestern State to pick up an 83-71 win to conclude the regular season for both programs.

Sunday's contest was a battle for the number-2 seed in the Lone Star Conference Tournament and with the loss the Aggies will play either Texas A&M-Commerce or Tarleton State on Thursday, at noon in Allen, Texas.

Cameron was hindered by 21.6 percent first half shooting and after averaging over seven three-pointers a game this season; the Aggies were limited to just one.   Brandi Leal and Jade Herl, both of CU's main threats from downtown, were limited to just two combined points.

Cristina Soriano helped pick up the Aggies on the offensive end with a career high 17 points and Jazzmine Robinson paced the team with 27 points with eight rebounds, it was her 12th twenty point game of the season.

Midwestern State had three in double-figures with Andrea Carter leading her team with 20 points.

Despite the slow start for Cameron, they shot 57.6 percent in the second half, and 38.6 percent overall against the Mustangs who shot 48.3 percent from the field.  The rebounding battle was won by MSU who grabbed 44, eight more than the Aggies.

The Mustangs doubled Cameron's point total at the half, 36-18, and managed to pull away by 25 points just five minutes into the second half.  Cameron picked up the pace in the final 10 minutes of the contest though and pecked off a 13-0 run and after a Soriano bucket the Aggies were within 11 points (65-54) with 6:19 left in the game.  In the next four minutes, the Aggies tried to get within single digits of MSU but outside a 10 point gap (76-66) with 2:40 to go Cameron couldn't get any closer.

Cameron will end the regular season with a 15-10 overall record a program best 12-4 LSC record; Midwestern State moves to 21-5 overall and 12-4 in the LSC.
