Aggies streak up to 16 with doubleheader sweep at ENMU

PORTALES, N.M. – Cameron's win steak increased to 16 games after the Aggies took the first two games of a four game series at Eastern New Mexico on Saturday afternoon.

The Aggies won game one 4-1 and once again the CU bats came alive with an 18-6 win in six innings over the Zias; Cameron has gone 31 days without a loss and boosted their overall record to 23-2 overall and 6-0 in the Lone Star Conference.

CU slugged five homers with Paige Daino having two and she added seven RBI; Tara Martini, Lauren Renneker, and Sonora Zukerman all would also clear the fence as well.

One streak did end on Saturday, which was Kelsey Watson's scoreless inning run that ended with an unearned run with two outs in the fifth inning.  Watson's streak lasted for 34 2/3 innings, four innings short of tying a 15 year old LSC record; she has yet to give up an earned run in 39 2/3 innings.   In game one she recorded her ninth win in a row in the circle and moved to 10-1 this season, with a 1.33 season ERA.

In game one, CU's offense came off the bats of Daino and Martini who both homered in two runs for the win.  The Aggies had seven hits overall but had a season high three errors.

The nightcap proved to be more interesting for fans of high scoring contests with Renneker hitting a grand slam and Zukerman hitting a solo blast to give the Aggies a 5-0 lead in the first.  ENMU in the bottom half of the inning got two off a homer to cut this CU lead to three.

In the next two innings CU knocked in six more runs with Daino bringing in one off a double and adding three off her second of the day; both Misty Dooley and Chelsea DeLong had RBI singles to make it an 11-2 game.

Despite the CU lead, ENMU pegged on a run in the third and three more in the fifth cut the Aggie lead to five.  However, the Aggies stopped the Zia momentum with 12 batters knocking in seven runs off of seven hits to blow the game wide open to run-rule ENMU in six innings.

The Aggies had 21 hits with Daino having three and five RBI.   Emily Nix and Breezy McComas both had three hit nights, with three others having a pair.

Zukerman led CU with four hits and moved to 8-1 this season with six innings tossed in the circle, she would give up six earned runs.  Katelyn Craker tossed a clean sixth inning out of the bullpen.

With the two losses to the Aggies, Eastern New Mexico will fall to 14-12 overall and 2-8 in LSC play.

Both teams will come back and wrap up the series with a doubleheader on Sunday at  1 p.m.
