ADA – Cameron remains undefeated after taking Fort Hays State into a five set nail biter (25-23, 20-25, 25-13, 23-25, 15-10) Saturday evening. This is the 8-0 Aggies' best start since 1998, and the Black and Gold still remains the only undefeated team in the Lone Star Conference.
Offensively,
Kendra Adams and
Kat Evans led the Aggies in kills by adding 13 each with
Kayla Allen right behind them who added 12 and achieved a team high .455 hitting percentage. Evans also earned her sixth double-double on the season by contributing 16 digs. Continuing on the defensive side,
Ciandra Seabourn earned 21 digs and Jordan
Williams added 20.
Madison Holle recorded a team high 31 assists.
Despite Fort Hays State recording more kills, Tigers' 61 to Aggies' 57, the Aggies had the better hitting percentage, leaving the match with .187 compared to the Tigers' .154. Cameron had the only aces of the match, four to the Fort Hayes State's zero. Cameron also led in digs with 96 and had seven errors to Fort Hayes State's 13 errors.
For the first set, both teams swapped points until a kill by Adams knotted the score at seven and a kill by
Jordan Williams brought Cameron's first lead of the game, 8-7. The set remained close as the Tigers inched toward the Aggies' lead late in the match at 24-23 until an attack error by Mallory Flagor brought Cameron the win, 25-23.
A kill by CU's
Jenna Gillean started off set two, and the Ags' took an early 4-1 lead, but three Cameron errors allowed FHSU to tie the set at four. Set two continued to be a thriller with 11 ties and five lead changes as the Tigers rallied to take the set 20-25.
Attacking errors proved to be Fort Hays State's undoing in the third set. The Tigers came away with a -.103 hitting percentage and hot offense from Adams, Evans and Allen brought three kills each to award Cameron the set, 25-13.
Set four mirrored set two with multiple ties and lead changes. Despite CU's early effort, the Tigers came up on the Aggies late in the set at 23-20. Two kills from the Tigers and one error from the Ags gave the set to FHSU, 23-25.
The Black and Gold stormed set five with the advantage match high hitting .412 percentage. Adams got the set and match winning kill for the second time of the day to bring the Aggies the win 15-10.
Fort Hayes State (4-4) was led by Chrystal Witten and Mallory Flagor, each with 18 kills.
On Friday, Sept. 18, the Aggies will travel to Kingsville, Texas to open LSC play.
