Ags open season at Texas Woman's University

Around the LSC:  Both Texas Woman's and Texas A&M-Commerce are in Denton with the Aggies, Eastern New Mexico is in Canyon for West Texas' invitational, Texas A&M-Kingsville is in St. Louis, Midwestern State is in Golden, Colo., while Tarleton State is at San Angelo, Texas for Angelo State's tournament.

Looking back:  The Aggies finished their 2014 season with a 15-15 record and an eight match improvement under head coach Qi Wang who will enter his second full season with CU and eleventh overall with a 232-96 record.  Cameron reached the LSC Tournament Semifinals with a five set win over Texas Woman's University, and it was the Ags first postseason win since the 2008 season.  In the 2015 LSC preseason poll the Aggies were picked to finish sixth in the league standings.

Looking forward:   Cameron will open the 2015 season in Denton to play four matches in two days against programs from the Great American Conference and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.   On Friday, the Aggies open with UC at Colorado Springs and it will be the first meeting between both programs since the 2005 season.  The Mountain Lions finished the season with a 12-16 overall record and was picked sixth in the RMAC preseason poll.   In match two on Friday, CU will face Arkansas Tech who went 29-6 overall, winning the GAC Tournament title, and quailing for the NCAA Central Regional.   The Golden Suns and Aggies faced each other at Arkansas Tech with CU falling 3-1; ATU was picked to win their league title.
 
On Saturday the Aggies will stay in the GAC and face the University of Arkansas at Monticello who went 15-15 last season like CU.  Both teams faced off in Lawton last season with the Aggies coming up with a 3-1 victory, the Blossoms were selected to finish eleventh in the GAC preseason poll.   The final match of the weekend will be against Harding and they went 20-9 last season and advanced to the GAC Tournament Semifinals.  HU was picked second in their league's preseason poll and is the first meeting between both teams since 2000 when Harding was a full member of the Lone Star Conference (1997-2000).

By The Numbers:
1 – Kat Evans is the lone senior of the Aggie squad and is one of nine CU volleyball players to surpass 1,000 kills.  The Pearland, Texas native has played in 92 matches and has 1,027 kills.
13 – Youth will be the theme of the 2015 season for the Aggies with 13 freshman on the roster.
15 – Cameron's roster consists of players from two states and one international, with 15 out of the 17 hailing from the state of Texas. 
37 – This is the 37th overall season for the Aggie volleyball program which ran from 1972-81, and was reestablished in 1987.
.707 – Head Coach Qi Wang's winning percentage in ten seasons which is 27th highest in the nation among active coaches and a minimum of five years at the Division II level.

On the horizon:  The Aggies will be off until next Friday and Saturday where they will play two matches at East Central and Southeastern Oklahoma.
