CU falls in three sets to Eastern New Mexico

LAWTON – The Aggies could not stop a hot hitting Eastern New Mexico squad to fall in straight sets (25-21, 25-22, 25-21) on Saturday afternoon in the Aggie Gym.

The Greyhounds put down 58 kills over the Aggies' 27 and were led by Lauren Frye who recorded 23 spikes of her own in a .514 hitting effort on the match.

Leading Cameron was Jenna Gillean with 14 kills with a team high .375 attack percentage.

Kylee Quillin recorded a team high 10 digs, while Shelby Mench and Shelby Pohlmeyer each contributed 12 assists.

To begin the match, ENMU took back an early 2-1 Aggie lead to break away by as much as five points. CU would inch within one at 14-13 after a Quillin ace, but the Greyhounds sustained their edge.

With the Greyhounds up by six points late, Cameron threatened to close in after ENMU committed two errors, and a CU kill put the Aggies close at 23-20; however, Frye would ignore a service error to close the game with two kills for the 25-21 advantage.

Set two saw four lead changes and 12 tie scores in the closest game of the match. The final tie came at 21 all from a Gillean kill, but ENMU went on a 4-1 run putting down kills from Frye and Courtney Lawson to keep their momentum at 25-22 heading into the locker room.

CU led only once in game three as ENMU opened the set with an attack error. From there, it was all Greyhounds who brought the score to 24-18.

The Aggies knocked on ENMU's door with three straight points, but Frye closed the set once again with the match winning kill, 25-21.

Cameron drops to 3-21 overall and 1-14 in the Lone Star Conference, while Eastern New Mexico moves to 14-10 overall and 9-5 in the league.

Next, Cameron will close out their home stand with a contest against Texas A&M-Commerce in the Aggie Gym on Tuesday.
