KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Cameron volleyball team closed out their regular season with a three-set loss (25-15, 25-12, 25-18) to Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday afternoon.
The Javelinas put together a strong offensive performance, outmatching the Ags' in kills 53 to 24 to hit .358 on the afternoon.
TAMUK also recorded eight team blocks and six aces, while Cameron only managed one in both categories.
Paige Dixon and
Jenna Gillean each had six kills, and
Brittany Lawson had five.
Shelby Pohlmeyer recorded 17 assists, and the Ags' dig leader was
Katrina Campbell with nine.
To start the match, the Aggies climbed to a 6-3 lead, but the Javelinas would string together five straight kills for the 8-6 advantage.
Two TAMUK errors allowed the Ags to tie it at eight all; however the Javelinas steadily inched away until another five point run gave them an eight point lead. The Javelinas offense proved powerful as they knocked down 20 kills in their 25-15 first set win.
The Javelinas jumped to a 7-1 start in the second game and kept ahead of CU by as much as five points until chaining another five straight to lead 20-10. TAMUK combined for five team blocks in set two and took it 25-12.
Set three was a tightly contested battle with seven ties and two lead changes. After dropping a 9-8 lead, Cameron fell behind the Javelinas 16-11, but the Aggies went on a five point run to tie it at 16 all.
TAMUK inched away and was two points ahead at 20-18 before putting down five straight kills for the 25-18 set and match victory.
Krystal Faison led the Javelinas with 15 kills and 11 digs as TAMUK moves to 25-8 overall and 14-6 in the Lone Star Conference.
Cameron ends the regular season 3-26 on the year and 1-19 in the league.
