STEPHENVILLE, Texas – A day after falling in their first game of the season, the Cameron women's basketball team bounced back and beat Missouri S&T 77-60 to move to 1-1 after their first weekend of play.
After falling behind earlier 7-2 in the first quarter, the Aggies made their run and ended the period with a four point lead, 18-14. CU opened the second period on a 10 point run and stretched their lead to 14 points. They continued the success throughout the second frame and took a 39-25 lead into halftime.
Jamie Bonnarens led CU with 10 points through the first two quarters, while
Natalie Halbleib added nine. CU shot 36 percent from the field and hit five of their 15 three pointers in the first half.
Cameron carried their second quarter momentum into the second half and limited MST to just 13 points in the third quarter. The Aggies were able to hold off the Miners despite a strong shooting performance in the fourth quarter and get the 77-60 win.
Brittany Hill led CU with 15 points, while Halbleib and
Charron Montgomery added 12 points apiece. Bonnarens recorded her first career double-double in just her second game wearing the black and gold, recording 10 points and 11 rebounds.
As a team, Cameron shot 34 percent from the field, 36 percent from three point range, and hit 20-28 from the charity stripe. The Aggies turned the ball over 19 times, but forced 25 turnovers on the defensive end, with 15 of those coming off of steals. Additionally, 19 of the Aggies 50 rebounds came on the offensive end.
MST, who as a team shot 36 percent from the field and 22 percent from long range, is now 1-1. They were led by Janie Arand, who had 13 points.
Next up for CU will be their home opener, when they take on Central Oklahoma on Nov. 17 at 5:30 p.m. in the Aggie Gym.
