Game Notes

First Tip: The charity stripe proved to be the difference in the Aggies' 82-75 loss at Angelo State on Wednesday night. While Cameron would make six of their nine three-pointers in the second half, it was no match for the Rams' 17-for-19 effort at the line as ASU would pick up their fourth straight win. Deondre Ray scored a career high 31 points, marking the first time an Aggie has had a 30 point game since Craig Foster's 32 point effort at Texas A&M-Commerce on Feb. 5, 2014. Ray also tied his career high in three-pointers, making four of Cameron's nine treys. Cameron Lee also finished in double figures with 15 points, and Jamaal Brantley added 14.

About Texas A&M-Kingsville: The Javelinas are 10-13 overall and 2-10 in the LSC with their two league victories coming to Eastern New Mexico and #RV Texas A&M-Commerce. The team has dropped their past two contests to RV Tarleton State and 22 Midwestern State. TAMUK is last in field goal percentages in the LSC (37.3%). They are shooting 30.8% behind the arc and 65.9% at the line. The Javelinas have two players averaging over 10 ppg in Troy Jones (13.3 ppg) and DJ Weathers (12.2 ppg). Jones is second in the LSC in rebounding, pulling down nine boards per game.

LSC Championship Dogfight: With a loss on Wednesday at Angelo State and wins by Midwestern State and West Texas A&M there is now a four way tie for the Lone Star Conference lead with two games to go.  The easiest thing for the Aggies is to win on Saturday against Texas A&M-Kingsville and beat Midwestern State next Saturday.  If the Aggies win both, the will at least win a part of the LSC regular season title.  There is no scenario on Saturday where the Aggies can clinch a share of the LSC title.

A win by Cameron and Midwestern State over Angelo State, along with a West Texas loss at Tarleton State would set up a winner take all title regular season title game with the Mustangs in the Aggie Gym next Saturday which will be broadcasted nationally live on ESPN3.

Last Time vs. TAMUK: In their first meeting, the Aggies took their first win since the 2010-11 season at Texas A&M-Kingsville and extended their winning streak to three with a 73-65 win.

Deondre Ray scored 14 points and grabbed ten boards for his second double-double of the week with 2013 being the last time an Aggie achieved a back-to-back double-double.  James Cross had a career high 13 rebounds to go with 11 points for his first career double-double. JV Long led the Aggies in scoring with 17 points and five assists.

CU improved its shooting in the second to 51.9% (14-27) for 45.3% total from the field. They also went 4-for-10 behind the arc and 21-for-29 at the charity stripe. TAMUK ended the game at 32.8% (20-61) from the field and shot 6-for-23 beyond the arc and 19-for-33 at the line.

The Aggies edged the Javelinas in rebounds 50 to 34. CU turned the ball over 19 times to the Javelinas' 11, with TAMUK recording 20 points off the takeaways. Cameron's bench accounted for 22 points.

CU vs. TAMUK: The overall series is tied at 18-18 and the series is home-friendly for both programs with the Aggies holding 13-4 advantage on the floor of the Aggie Gym. Cameron has won six-out of their last seven at home against Kingsville with two losses overall since the 1994-95 season. In two seasons as CU's head coach, Nate Gamet is 3-2 when facing the Javelinas.
