LAWTON – Cameron got off to a fast start but could not keep pace with a hot shooting second half by number-14 Midwestern State falling 79-59 in front of a sold out crowd on Saturday.
The Aggies had an opportunity to clinch the top seed in the Lone Star Conference Tournament and a share of their first league title. Instead, CU will find themselves as a middle seed in the upcoming league tournament in Allen, Texas next week.
With the win, Midwestern State clinched their nine league title and their seventh out of the late ten seasons.
Jamaal Brantley had a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds,
Cameron Lee had 16, and
Deondre Ray added 14. Â Â As a team, CU shot 18-for-60 (30%) and only sank four treys against the Mustangs.Â
The largest difference of the night was MSU's bench which had 36 points, Cameron only came up with two. Midwestern State shot 29-for-62 from the field and in the second half they were nearly lights out going 17-for-28.
Cameron came out hot out of the gates and had a ten point lead (16-6) after a Ray three-pointer with 11 minutes left in the first half.   However, CU only hit one bucket for the next seven minutes and their lead evaporated. Midwestern State would take a 31-24 advantage at the halftime horn.
In the second half, MSU pulled ahead by double figures until a rally at the midway point off a bucket by Lee while being fouled put Cameron back by three (52-49)Â However, this was the closest CU could get for the remainder of the contest.
Sheldon Hagigal came off MSU's bench to lead his team with 19 point with two others hitting double figures.
The sellout Cameron's first since the 1980-81 season and they will end the regular season with a 15-11 record and 8-6 LSC record. Midwestern State will move to 21-5 and 10-4 in league play.
