Aggies overwhelm Midwestern State, 77-61

LAWTON – The Aggies never trailed and would drain 13 three-pointers in a 77-61 victory over Midwestern State to close out regular season play in the Aggie Gym on Saturday in the ESPN3 NCAA Division II Game of the Week

Cameron picked up its 15th win over the Mustangs in Lawton and as a result recorded back-to-back victories this season against MSU for the first time since taking three in a row in 2004-05.

Brandi Leal, Dayla Threatt, and Brandi Gomez led the Aggies with 12 points each. Gomez was perfect on the floor, shooting 4-for-4 from the field and drained all four three-point attempts. DJ Vallier and Markita Zeigler grabbed eight boards a piece for CU.

Cameron came out firing from downtown to open the game, draining five of the first half's seven three-pointers in just the first quarter. The Aggies would hold a 15 point lead over the Mustangs heading into the locker room, leading 36-21, after a poor shooting MSU was held to 22% from the field (8-for-36).

The Aggies would further their lead into the second half, improving their shooting from 41.4% to 51.6% (16-for-31). Cameron scored 30 points in the third quarter, nearly doubling MSU's 16 point effort. CU continued to be a deep threat, hitting six treys in the half, and MSU would make 4-of-5 of their three-pointers in the fourth quarter as they worked to chip a 32 point deficit down to 16 only for the Aggies to keep out of reach for the 77-61 victory.

While MSU shot 90% (9-for-10) at the charity stripe, Cameron kept the Mustangs at bay, with 13 total three-pointers and a 46.7% (28-for-60) effort from the field, while keeping MSU to 32.9% on the floor.

MSU would cash in 16 Aggie turnovers for 12 points, with Cameron edging the Mustangs 47-to-33 in rebounds. Additionally, CU's bench accounted for 40 of the Aggies' points.

Whitney Taylor led MSU with 23 points and made four three-pointers on the game. Katie Brown had a game high 11 rebounds.

The Aggies ended regular season play at 9-7 in the league and 15-10 overall and will compete in the Lone Star Conference Basketball Championship in Allen, Texas, which begins March 2.
