SAN ANGELO, Texas –
Sonora Zukerman tied Cameron's career home run record in the Aggies' doubleheader split at Angelo State on Saturday. In game two, Zukerman powered a three run shot over right field to tie the program mark set by Leslie Martini at 43 career home runs with her 12th homer of the season.
Additionally, Zukerman (11-6) pitched the complete game win where she retired 15 batters down in order and held the Rambelles to four hits helping the Aggies to a 5-3 victory and preventing the series sweep by ASU.
Cameron dropped three of four games to the Rambelles in the series loss to wrap up the regular season at 33-20 overall and 18-14 in the Lone Star Conference to tie with Texas A&M-Commerce in league standings.
However, Cameron's season series win over A&M-Commerce is the tiebreaker as the Aggies will face six-seed Midwestern State as the third-seed in the LSC Tournament at 11 a.m. on Friday in Canyon, Texas.
Cameron was held to just two hits in game one as the Aggies fell in a 2-0 shutout. The Rambelles scored on a pair of RBI singles in the first and second innings. CU remained hitless until the top of the fourth, and their only other hit occurred in the seventh.
Brandi Marlett (17-8) pitched the complete two hit shutout win for ASU, walking six and striking out eight Aggie batters.
The Rambelles batted .250 with six hits and none went down on strikeouts against CU's
Emily Wasinger (16-9) who pitched six innings in the loss.
In game two, Zukerman put the Aggies on the board with a three run homer, and
Paige Daino followed up in the sixth inning with a two run shot of her own to extend the Aggies' lead to 5-0.
Cameron held the Rambelles to one hit and ASU remained scoreless until the seventh inning when they began a late comeback attempt, scoring three runs on a pair of singles, but the last Rambelle flied out to stifle the series sweep as Cameron took game two, 5-3.
