CU volleyball pushed to five twice; Gillean named All-Tournament

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Cameron pushed their matches to the distance on their final day at Midwestern State's Invitational with CU falling to Southeastern Oklahoma, and later rallying back to best St. Edward's on Saturday.

The win over the Hilltoppers snapped a five match early season skid by the Aggies who have been pushed to five-sets in half of their eight matches.

Jenna Gillean was named All-Tournament after recording 62 kills in the four matches this weekend.  The Aggie sophomore was nearly flawless with only nine errors; she had a streak of 17 kills in a row on Friday, and topped that mark with 18 in a row on Saturday against Southeastern Oklahoma.

Cameron will see their record move to 2-6 heading into Lone Star Conference play that will start on Friday at home against West Texas A&M at 5:30 p.m.

Cameron vs. Southeastern Okla. (25-17, 19-25, 25-22, 23-25, 9-15)
In a seesaw battle with the Savage Strom (5-2), the Aggies fell late despite a 19 kill effort from Gillean in their early afternoon tilt.

The Aggies (1-6) dominated the early set with a 25-17 win off of 17 kills and a .282 hitting percentage.  Gillean hit .600, with six kills, and no errors as CU pulled away with six unanswered points.

In set two, Cameron led 16-13 through the midway marker but momentum sided with SOSU and they knocked down the next seven points to even the match at one each.  With the sets tied, Southeastern Oklahoma held onto a 19-17 advantage until the Ags sparked off of Kylee Quillin at the service line with six straight points.  Quillin, the CU junior had a pair of service aces during their run to take the set.

Southeastern Oklahoma controlled the majority of the fourth set to push the Aggies to their third full match of the season.  Cameron did mount a late run with four straight points to get within one (23-22) but the Savage Strom would pick up a kill in the following rally to get to set point.

Cameron would fall flat in the fifth set offensively with four kills and five errors to allow SOSU to pick up their fifth win of the season.

The Aggies hit .188 at the net with 57 kills, while the Savage Storm went .221 and had 70 kills; SOSU knocked down ten blocks to CU's three.
