LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron men's basketball team sent their contest into four overtimes to mark the second longest game in school history on Saturday as the Aggies fell 100-98 to No. 11 West Texas A&M.
On two occasions,
Tyus Momoh delivered last second game tying three-pointers to keep the Aggies in contention in the second and third overtimes.
The Cameron school record is a five overtime game at Northwestern Oklahoma on Jan. 15, 1971 when the Aggies won 86-85.
Five Aggies scored in double figures and two achieved double-doubles.
Delvonte Pierre scored 18 points and had ten rebounds, while
Stacey Lambert had ten points and a team high 17 rebounds.
Momoh led Cameron with 19 points, and
JV Long (18 pts) and
Tyler Williams (16 pts) rounded out the Ags in double figures.
At halftime the Aggies had kept the Buffs from seeing the lead after they shot just 18 percent from the field for a 29-18 Cameron lead.
In the second half, the Buffs saw their first lead of the game (55-53) with just over a minute remaining of regulation. With ten seconds on the clock, WTAMU went to the line and made one of two, but Cameron missed their last second attempt as time expired with the game tied 56-all at the end of regulation.
After three overtimes, the game entered a fourth and the Buffs took the lead off of what would be the game's final tie after sinking all three free throws off a foul beyond the arc for the 99-96 edge. With 12 seconds remaining Cameron sank two of their own and the Buffs added one more to still lead 100-98.
But Cameron would not be able to capitalize again with a tough missed shot at the buzzer to fall to 10-6 overall and 3-3 in the Lone Star Conference.
The win takes WTAMU to 16-2 and 4-1 in the league.
Overall, Cameron shot 37-for-93 from the field, 8-for-21 from beyond the arc and 16-for-22 at the line.
WTAMU shot 32-for-91 on the floor, 8-for-39 from out deep and 28-for-39 at the charity stripe.
Cameron out-rebounded the Buffs 68-56.
The Aggies will hit the road for their next three contests starting with a stop at Eastern New Mexico on Jan. 12.
