Cameron falls in five sets to Lions

COMMERCE, Texas – The Cameron volleyball team gave Texas A&M-Commerce a scare on Halloween as the Aggies took the match to five sets but ultimately fell to the No. 2 team in the Lone Star Conference on Tuesday evening.

Cameron took sets one and four by the same score 26-24 in extra points, but dropped sets two 20-25, set three 16-25 and set five 11-15. The Aggies are now 7-18 on the year and 3-13 in the LSC while TAMUC is 17-9 overall and 12-4 in the league.

Three Aggies tallied double digits kills with Paige Dixon knocking down 13 kills, Brandy Carr 11 and Bristol Lewis 10. Carr also had six of CU's 12 total blocks. Brook Conley got her 15th double-double of the year on 42 assists and 16 digs. Brittnee Altic chipped in 17 digs, Brittany Lawson 15 and Katrina Campbell 12.

Six Lions reached double figure kills as Jaslyn Wacker led the way with 16 kills.

The match opened with a highly contested first set that saw 11 ties and six lead changes. Both teams posted 15 kills each, but the Aggies triumphed in extra points 26-24 after back-to-back kills from Dixon and Lewis.

TAMUC's offense came back strong in the second and third sets as they hit over .300 in each game. They won set two 25-20 and did not allow CU to take the lead at all in set three for a 25-16 victory.

Cameron fought to defend set four and despite the Lions outmatching them in kills 17-13, the Aggies forced nine attack errors helping them to stay in the match with a 26-24 win as Dixon put down a kill and a block by Katherine Manning and Brittany Lawson lifted them off set point.

The Black and Gold trailed 13-10 in set five, but TAMUC reached match point on a kill. CU stalled with a block by Ashleigh McFatridge and Lewis; however, the Aggies committed a ball handling error on the next play to fall 15-11.

The Aggies return home this weekend to face nationally ranked conference opponents Angelo State and Tarleton State.
