Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bonnarens' double-double not enough against UCO

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Jamie Bonnarens recorded a double-double with 27 points and 13 rebounds as the Cameron women's basketball team fell to No. 23 Central Oklahoma on Monday night, 65-59.

The sophomore, Bonnarens, recorded her second double-double in a row with her performance on Monday as she went just 9-22 from the field, but hit on two of her four shots from the perimeter and went 7-8 from the charity stripe.

The two teams traded buckets to start the game, before a four point UCO run was erased by a four point CU run in a low-scoring first quarter. After 10 minutes of play, just 20 combined points were scored as it was tied at 10 points through the first. The stifling defenses kept up their efforts in the second quarter as the two teams each only scored 14 points through the 10 minutes, leading to a 24-24 halftime score.

Bonnarens led CU with 10 points and seven rebounds at the half, as CU shot just 10-34 from the field and 2-12 from three point range. Melinda Murillo had seven points for UCO at the break.

The Bronchos controlled the third quarter from the start as the opened the second half with a seven point run. After the Aggies cut the home team's lead down to two points at the 4:55 mark, Central Oklahoma answered with an eight point run to go up by 10 points. Bonnarens ended the quarter with five straight points for CU, but UCO still held a 44-38 advantage heading into the final quarter.

Early in the fourth, Cameron used a six point run to cut the lead back down to six points, but the Bronchos quickly erased that with a seven point run to go back up by 10 with 5:46 to play. CU then used a five point run to cut the lead in half but UCO kept the comeback at bay. It was not until there was less than 30 seconds to go that the Aggies cut the lead to just three on five straight points. However, a personal foul and a technical on the Ags sent the Bronchos to the line, as they iced the game with three free throws, winning 65-59.

The only other Aggie in double-figures was Amaka Nwakamma, who recorded 10 points, as CU as a team shot just 29.4 percent from the field and went 5-20 from three.  Four Bronchos hit the 10 point mark, as Blake Blessington led the way with 15 points, going 10-10 from the perimeter. UCO shot poorly as well, hitting just 30.5 percent of their shots from the field and just 4-24 from three point range.

Cameron is now 4-7 on the year while the ranked Central Oklahoma Bronchos are now 10-1.

The Black and Gold will have about week off for the Holiday Break but will be back in action on Dec. 30 as they host St. Mary's in the Aggie Gym at 1 p.m.
