CLAREMORE, Okla. – Cameron's men's basketball team fell to Rogers State on the road on Tuesday, 88-72, after trailing by 25 points at halftime.
Cameron battled back and forth with the Hillcats from the start of the game up until the 13:09 mark when a pair of
Jordan Lewis free throws put CU down just two points at 16-14. From there, RSU went on a 25-2 run to extend their lead to 41-16 with over seven minutes still to play in the first half. The Aggies made a few small runs in the closing minutes of the first, but they still trailed by 25 at the break, 57-32.
Rogers State shot lights out in the first half (.556) while CU struggled, hitting just nine of their 28 field goal attempts. One positive aspect of the first 20 minutes from the Black and Gold is that they went to the line 15 times and knocked down 12 of their free throw attempts.
Chris Royal had seven points off of the bench to lead the Ags, while Brewster Peacock led RSU at the break with 12 points, knocking down three shots from the perimeter.
The Aggies picked up the effort in the second half, shooting 17-38 from the field, but hit just 4 of their 13 three point attempts and went just 2-5 from the line in the final 20 minutes of play. Their press forced nine RSU turnovers which led to a couple of Aggie runs, but the deficit was too large to bounce back from as the Hillcats closed out the game on a 6-3 run and won 88-72.
Tyus Momoh scored a team high 19 points for CU, going 3-5 from the perimeter while
Zach Dumas hit two three point shots and was 4-4 from the free throw line while scoring 14 points. Cameron shot just under 40 percent from the field while hitting 33.3 percent of the three point attempts.
Baron Smith Jr. ended up leading Rogers State with 19 points, as Peacock finished with 15 and Saint Hilaire had 11.
Cameron is now 4-8 on the season while the Hillcats move to 9-3 overall and a perfect 5-0 at home.
The Aggies will return to the Aggie Gym for their next contest as they host East Central Oklahoma on Saturday, Dec. 30 starting at approximately 3 p.m.
