CU men face WT and No. 13 UTPB to close out four game road stretch

Game Notes

First tip:
- The Aggies continue a tough stretch of play as they visit the always tough West Texas A&M and No. 13/19 UT Permian Basin as the race to the Lone Star Conference title comes down the home stretch.
- CU split their contests last week, taking down Angelo State 85-77, but falling in a heartbreaker to Texas A&M-Kingsville, 58-56.
- After being up by 24 late in the first half, the Ags had to use clutch shooting to hold off a late run by the Rams, avenging their four point loss to ASU at home earlier this season; Delvonte Pierre had a team high 18 points for the Black and Gold.
- Against the Javelinas, Cameron set season lows from points and three point field goal percentage; Tyus Momoh led CU with 17 points, going 6-6 from the free throw line.
- After winning three straight following the four overtime loss to West Texas A&M, Cameron has won just one out of their last four games.
- The Aggies are ranked first in the LSC in assist/turnover ratio, fewest turnovers, and turnovers per game, while ranked 13 in the nation in three-point field goal defense.
- Momoh averaged 14.5 points in the last two contests and is now leading the team with 12.2 points per game and also averaging 3.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.3 steals.
- JV Long has averaged 12.8 points over the last 10 ball games and is now fourth in the LSC with 3.9 assists per contest, while averaging 5.5 rebounds.
- In his last five contests, 14 points, which has boosted his season average up to 10.2 points per game; he is also shooting 44.8 percent from three point range in those five games.
 
About West Texas A&M:
- The Buffs have won just one out of their last five games, most recently falling to UT Permian Basin 77-73.
- WT still leads the nation in free throws made and attempted, and is first in the conference in three pointers made and assists.
- West Texas is second in the league with 88.2 points per game, while ranking eighth in scoring defense.
- David Chavlovich leads the LSC in a variety of categories, including points per game, free throws made, field goals made, and total minutes.
- Carl White is third in the conference with 1.5 blocked shots per game, while Ryan Quaid is ninth in total rebounds.
 
The series vs. WT:
- Rams lead 27-17.
- Cameron is 3-2 in Canyon, Texas in the past four seasons.
- Last Meeting: January 7, 2017 in Lawton, Okla. (100-98 4OT WT win)
 
Last time out vs. the Buffs:
Earlier this season, the Aggies and Buffs decided they wanted to play three halves, so they treated the fans to a four overtime thriller. Cameron led 28-19 after the first 20 minutes of play, but WT came back and outscored CU 38-27 in the second half. Momoh hit three pointers to force the third and fourth overtimes, unfortunately for Aggie fans, West Texas won the fourth overtime 14-12 to get the win. Momoh had a team high 19 points, 17 of those coming in overtime alone, while Long and Pierre each chipped in 18 points. Chavolvich led WT with 28 points, with 26 of those coming in the second half and overtime.
 
About UT Permian Basin:
- UTPB has won eight straight since losing to Cameron and Midwestern State back-to-back earlier this season.
- The Falcons rank first in the LSC and 11 nationally in scoring offense, while ranking 21 in scoring margin.
- UTPB ranks first in the nation in rebounding margin, fourth in total rebounds, and ninth in field goal dense.
- UT Permian Basin has the second best  shooting percentage in the LSC, shooting 47.5 percent from the field, while hitting nine three pointer per game at a 35.4 percent clip.
- Daeshon Francis is third in the LSC in scoring and ranks in the top-10 in the league in rebounds, steals, and field goal percentage.
- Johnnie Lacy and James McPherson are both top-10 in the conference in scoring and rank top-5 in both three point percentage and three pointers made per contest.
- Additionally, Sammy Allen leads the team and the LSC and is seventh nationally with 11.2 boards per contest. 
 
The series vs. UTPB:
- CU leads 2-1.
- This will be the first time in program history that the Aggies will play in Odessa, Texas.
- Last Meeting: January 5, 2017 in Lawton, Okla. (81-76 CU win)
 
Last time vs. the Falcons:
Cameron trailed by five at the break in the first meeting with UTPB, but a 53-43 second half earned them the 81-76 win. The Aggies were able to overcome a poor shooting first half and a 52 percent shooting night from the Falcons by forcing 23 turnovers, which resulted in 26 points for CU. Trey Hall came off the bench and scored 15 points, while Pierre had 14 points and Stacey Lambert had a season high 13 points. McPherson led UT Permian Basin with 21 points, going 6-7 from three, while Francis and Lacy each scored 16 points.

Next up:
Cameron will finish out their season at home as they host Western New Mexico, Eastern New Mexico, and Midwestern State in a six day span.
