ODESSA, Texas – In their first Lone Star Conference battle of the season, the Aggie volleyball team fell to UT Permian Basin in four hard fought sets, including two that went past set point.
After opening the match with a 25-21 win in the opening set, Cameron found themselves on the losing side of a 25-21 score as the Falcons evened the match up after set two.
Set three was back and forth throughout, with neither team holding more than a three point lead. UTPB was the first to reach 25 points, but the Ags responded with a kill by
Amarachi Iwunze to tie the match. A pair of Falcon kills however would finish off the set 27-25.
In the fourth set, the two teams battled back and forth again until UT Permian Basin take a five point advantage, but Cameron came surging back to tie the match at 19. After that ,the Falcons made a rally of their own to go up 23-19, but CU came back again with five straight points, including two kills from
Paige Dixon to take a 24-23 lead. UTPB scored two straight to take reach set point, but Dixon added another kill to even the match at 25. After a pair of attack errors from each team, the match was tied again at 26. An attack error on CU and a service ace from the Falcons finished off the fourth set 28-26 and the match 3-1.
Dixon led all players with a career high 19 kills, while posting a .317 attack percentage.
Ashleigh McFatridge chipped in 10 kills with only one error on 19 attacks on the offensive end, while
Brandy Carr added six blocks and three kills.
Brook Conley posted her fourth double-double of the young season with 37 assists and 17 digs, and
Brittnee Altic added 17 digs of her own.
Rachel Dixon led the Falcons with 16 kills, while former Aggie Jordan Williams and Caitlyn Guajardo added 13 kills each.
The loss sets CU's overall record at 2-6, while handing them their first LSC loss, while UTPB moves to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in league play.
Cameron will continue their conference opening weekend on Saturday as they take on West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas at noon.Â
