ADA, Okla. – The Cameron volleyball team suffered two loses at the East Central Tiger Invitational on Friday, as they fell to Henderson State 3-0 and then to the host team Tigers 3-1 in the nightcap.
In the match against Henderson State, the Aggies battled in both the first and third sets, but the Reddies were able to hold off the attack in each set, as they won in straight sets, 25-21, 25-15, 25-22. Cameron's attack percentage was below .140 in each set, with a negative percentage in the second. They had just one service ace compared to HSU's five.
Bristol Lewis led the Aggies with eight kills on 27 attacks, while
Brook Conley had 17 assists and 13 digs and
Brittnee Altic added 22 digs of her own. As a team, CU had eight total blocks with
Brandy Carr leading the team with four block assists.
After falling behind with a 25-19 set one loss in the second game of the day against East Central, the Aggies were able to even the match up with a 25-18 second set victory. Unfortunately in the third set, Cameron was unable to hold a late ECU rally at bay as the Tigers went on a 7-2 run to end the set and take a 2-1 lead. East Central jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the fourth set and never looked back as they won 25-16 to take the match.
Lewis was CU's leader on the attack for the second straight game, as she recorded 15 kills, while
Paige Dixon and
Ashleigh McFatridge chipped in 10 kills apiece. Conley contributed 36 assists and 20 digs, as
Brittany Lawson had 16 digs and Altic had 15.
Cameron is now 1-5 on the young season as they have lost their last four matches.
For their next match, the Aggies will face the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma for their home opener on Sept. 12 starting at 5:30 p.m.
