CU men return home to face Greyhounds and Mustangs

Game Notes

Starting 5: 
1. Junior, JV Long has started 72 straight games for the Aggies.
2. During their 1-6 stretch, the Aggies are averaging 68.7 points and shooting under 37 percent from the field. 
3. Cameron, Eastern New Mexico, and Western New Mexico have a combines two Lone Star Conference wins between the three of them. 
4. ENMU's Lamarquis Thompson leads the conference in free throw percentage, making 87.8 percent of his chances at the line. 
5. The Mustangs rank second in the LSC in both steals per game and three point defense. 

About the Aggies: 
While the Aggies have lost six of their last seven games, all six of those losses came on the road,  they are 3-1 while playing at the Aggie Gym, which is where they play their next three contests. They start off that stand by hosting Eastern New Mexico and Western New Mexico, who, with CU and Midwestern State, make up the bottom four teams in the league.  

Cameron is averaging 72.5 points per game while shooting just over 42 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from the perimeter. They are fourth best in the LSC in free throw shooting, knocking down 71.7 percent of the free shots. As for the opposition, they are averaging 76.1 points against CU, while shooting over 45 percent from the field and 36 percent from the perimeter. 

JV Long leads the conference in assists/turnover ratio, is fifth in assists, and fourth in steals while leading the Aggies with 9.8 points, 3.9 assists, and 1.7 steals per contest. Cameron is second in the league in three pointers made, as Delano Jones and Johann Tate are both tied for 10th with 1.7 made threes per game. Additionally, Tyler Williams is scoring 9.4 points and leads the team with five rebounds per game, while Tyus Momoh averages 9.3 points per outing. 

Scouting the Greyhounds: 
The Greyhounds have won three of their last four contests, but before that, they were on a six game skid, including four LSC games. Most recently, ENMU took down their in-state rivals Western New Mexico, 105-91 and before that, Lubbock Christian, 82-73. Against WNMU, Eastern New Mexico shot over 48 percent from the field while going 30-39 from the charity stripe. Devin Pullum led the team with 21 points, as five other players scored in double-figures to help the Greyhounds secure the win. 

On the season, four ENMU players are averaging over 10 points per contest with Lamarquis Thompson leading the way with 11.1 per game. Thompson is shooting almost 56 percent from the field and 48.4 percent from the perimeter. He leads the LSC in free throw percentage and has a team leading 2.4 assists and 5.6 rebounds per game. Additionally, Jamani Pierce is scoring 10.9 points, Zach Parker averages 10.6, and Pullum scores 10.1. 

The series vs. ENMU:
- CU leads the series 25-20.
- The Aggies have won seven out of the last 10 meetings. 
- Last Meeting: February 18, 2017 in Lawton, Okla. (81-73 ENMU win).

Scouting the Mustangs: 
Western New Mexico finished out 2017 with their third win of the season as they took down Embry Riddle, 78-58. They then opened 2018 against in-state rival Eastern New Mexico. The Mustangs fell to the Greyhounds 105-91 and are now 0-5 in LSC play. WNMU had six players score in double-figures as Willie McCray led the team with 19 points. 

McCray is scoring a team best 14.2 points this season, while knocking down 76.2 percent of his 63 free throw attempts. Hanneef Vaughn-Wilson is also averaging in double-figures, recording 10.1 points while shooting over 47 percent from the field and leading the team with 46 total assists and 24 steals. Latrell Spivey is WNMU's star bigman, as he averages 8.9 points and seven rebounds per game, while Jon-Reese Woodson is also a strong 6'9" forward who averages seven points and 5.4 boards per outing. 

The series vs. WNMU:
- CU leads the series 6-3.
- Cameron swept the Mustangs last season, winning by a combines 34 points in the two contests.
- Last Meeting: February 16, 2017 in Lawton, Okla. (86-66 CU win).

Looking back:
Cameron got back to Lone Star Conference action in their last two contests as they faced ranked UT Permian Basin and West Texas A&M. Against No. 8 UTPB, CU led by five at the half as they shot over 56 percent from the field and 63 percent from three during the first 20 minutes. They struggled in the second half, shooting under 30 percent from the field, as the Falcons outscored CU 50-38 to win the game, 95-88. Tyler Williams and Johann Tate each scored 15 points for the Ags. Two days later, Cameron went up against No. 11 WT and got blown out from the start, losing 93-59. The Black and Gold shot just 29.2 percent from the field while Williams led the way with 11 points. 

Looking ahead:
The Aggies have a quick turnaround after Saturday's game as they go from playing one team of Mustangs to another. CU hosts their Red River Rival, the Midwestern State Mustangs on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m.; they are then off that following weekend.
