Aggies second half comeback falls short versus ENMU

LAWTON – The Cameron women's basketball team fell short 57-53 to Eastern New Mexico after attempting a second half comeback on Thursday evening.

The Aggies experienced cold shooting in the first half and trailed by as much as 11 points. CU shot 28 percent from the field while making just 1 of 10 three-pointers and went 3 of 7 at the line.

Meanwhile, ENMU shot 37 percent on the floor, 63 percent at the line and made five treys helping them to lead 36-26 at the break.

Jamie Bonnarens reached double digits in the first half, scoring 13 points, which was matched by ENMU's Mikaehla Connor who had a 6-for-8 effort at the line in the first half.

Out of the locker room the Aggies were hot on the Greyhounds tails as CU outscored ENMU 16-9 in the third quarter to get within one possession for the first time since the game's opening minutes.

Entering the fourth quarter CU went on a 6-2 run to grab their first lead since the first quarter, 48-47. CU grabbed a one point lead twice more down to the 2:40 marker all while forcing six turnovers but battling an ENMU squad in the bonus.

ENMU's 6 of 12 made free throws helped them to stay ahead of the Aggies and seal the game with a 57-53 victory.

Bonnarens led CU with 17 points. Lejha Smith nabbed her fifth double-double of the season on 13 points and 11 boards. She also totaled five blocks, just one shy of her career high which she set in the season opener versus Oklahoma Christian.

Amaka Nwakamma tallied four steals, and Ava Battese scored nine points.

ENMU's Connor led her team with 16 points, while Daeshi McCants earned a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards.

Cameron drops to 5-10 overall and 3-4 in the Lone Star Conference. ENMU is now 8-6 overall and 4-3 in the league.
