STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Poor shooting plagued the Aggie men's basketball team as they fell to Tarleton State on Thursday night, 68-59. The two teams split the regular season series this year.
The game started out with the two teams battling back and forth until Tarleton State started pulling away with a seven point run to put them up by 10 points. They continued that pace and capped off the first 20 minutes of play with a buzzer beater three from Preston Enloe, giving them a 35-22 advantage at the break.
The Aggies closed out the half hitting just one of their last seven shots, compared to Tarleton State's 4-5 heading into halftime. Cameron shot just 27.6 percent in the half, with
Delano Jones leading the team with 7 points, while TSU shot 48 percent in the first, as Corinthian Ramsey led all scorers with 15 points.
Cameron slowly started chipping away at the Tarleton State lead in the second half as they used a 9-0 run to help cut the deficit to just four points at the 10:18 mark. However, just when the Aggies started getting momentum, it swung back the other way and the Texans stretched their lead back out to nine points quickly. That would be as close as CU would get the rest of the game and that would be the final deficit as well, with Tarleton State winning 68-59.
Jones,
Elish Benjamin, and
Jordan Lewis each finished the game with 10 points to lead the Aggies as they as a team shot just 35 percent from the field, 34.5 percent from three, and went 7-16 from the charity stripe.
Ramsey showed why he is one of the top scorers in the LSC as he had 29 points with five three pointers, while Josh Hawley had an 11 point, 17 rebound double-double to lead the Texans. TSU shot over 52 percent for the game, hitting 10-26 from the perimeter and 12-16 from the charity stripe.
The Aggies are now 7-12 on the season with a 3-7 Lone Star Conference mark, while Tarleton State's win improves their record to 11-8 overall and 6-4 in league play.
Cameron will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 27, as they visit Texas A&M-Commerce, who they lost to at the beginning of LSC play this season.
