LAWTON, Okla. --
Katherine Manning led the Aggies with a career high 42 assists as the Cameron volleyball team took down rival Midwestern State University of Texas 3-1 in their final home match of the season.
CU had a solid offensive attack on Tuesday night, hitting .203 with 54 kills and a total of 49 assists, 42 of those coming from their sophomore setter, whose previous career high was 35. The two teams combined for 25 blocks, with the Black and Gold totaling 12 and also recording five service aces in the win.
Paige Dixon led CU with 13 kills on a .267 attack percentage, while
Brandy Carr had 12 kills on a .375 clip. Carr also led the team with six total blocks, with
Ashleigh McFatridge chipping in five to go along with eight kills of her own.
Brittnee Altic had a team-best 13 digs, leaving her three shy of becoming the eighth recorded player in program history to reach 1,000 career digs.
Midwestern looked to take over the match early, going on a 10-2 run to start the first set. Cameron slowly started to battle back and with a four point rally, cut the deficit to just five at 23-18. The Mustangs then scored the next two points to take the first frame 25-18.
Set two was back and forth until the Aggies used an 11-1 stretch to build up their lead to 17-9. MSU chipped away at the lead and after an attack error by the Black and Gold had cut the home team's lead to 21-19. Cameron then outscored MSU 5-1 in the final six plays to take the set 25-20 and even up the match.
The third set was a battle, with neither team allowing the other to take a sizable lead. CU was the first to set point on a kill by Carr, but the Mustangs answered with two straight to tie the frame. A pair of MSU errors sealed the deal though, giving Cameron the 26-24 win.
Like the previous two sets, the Aggies fought back and forth with Midwestern, before using a four point rally to take a small 13-7 lead. CU held the advantage throughout the rest of the set and used kills from
Amarachi Iwunze and Carr to win the set 25-17 and secure their second LSC victory.
Raven Presely led MSU with 13 kills, while Sarah Glawe had 43 assists and Lauren Honeycutt led the team with six blocks.
Cameron now sits at 4-25 overall this season and 2-17 in LSC play, while MSU falls to 5-22 on the season and 3-16 in league contests.
The Aggies will close out their 2018 season on Saturday, Nov. 3 when they travel to take on Texas A&M-Kingsville for a match set to begin at 2 p.m.
