LAWTON, Okla. – Despite erasing a second half, 12 point deficit on Saturday, the Aggie men's basketball team fall 85-79 to Oklahoma Christian in their first loss of the season.
Cameron trailed the Eagles by 12 at the 13:32 mark in the second half and tied the game at 73-73 with a layup by
Tyus Momoh at the 5:26 mark. After battling back and forth, a big second chance point for OC provided by Will Lienhard gave them a three-point lead over the home team with just 32 seconds left in the game. Jordan Box then went 4-4 from the free throw line in the final seconds of play to secure the win. Â
Less than 24 hours away from shooting over 50 percent from the field in a win over Newman, the Black and Gold had the roles reversed against Oklahoma Christian, shooting just 36.6 percent from the field and going 5-17 from three, while their opposition shot a remarkable 56.1 percent from the floor and went 9-19 from three. CU also missed 10 shots at the line, while the Eagles were 12-14 on their free throw attempts.
Zach Dumas led Cameron with 17 points, but was just 6-19 from the field.
Tyus Momoh had 13 points and four steals in the game, while
Johann Tate,
Jalen Nicholas, and
Dalton Vinson each chipped in 11 points; Vinson had his second career double-double in as many games with a team-high 10 rebounds.
Oklahoma Christian got a 21 point performance from Box, who was 6-6 from the free throw line, while Roderick Smith had 20 points off the bench. Lienhard showed what kind of presence he is in the middle for OC, recording 13 rebounds and six blocks, as the Eagles had 11 rejections as a whole.
Cameron and OC both exit the Heartland/Lone Star Conference Challenge with a 1-1 record after Saturday's result.
The Aggies will have a week off before their next contest, as they visit Lubbock Christian for their first road test of the season on Nov. 17.
