LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University softball team opened up Lone Star Conference play with a 2-0 win over Texas Woman's on Saturday.
Bethany Hines took command of the circle and gave up just two hits in her seven innings of work for her fifth win of the season. The sophomore struck out five Pioneer batters while walking just two.
The only scoring of the game came in the third inning when the Aggies put up their two runs. Hines started things off with a one out single and then moved over on a sacrifice bunt by
Brenna Busby.
Kaitlyn Alvarado then drove in Hines on a double over the left fielders head. In the next at bat,
Callie Busby singled in
Lauren Mason, who came in to run for Alvarado.
Cameron totaled just four hits, all coming off the bats of four different CU players. Alavarado and C. Busby each had a hit and an RBI to lead the Black and Gold.
TWU's starter, Abby Walker pitched a solid game, going all six innings and giving up just two runs on four hits with seven Ks. Lindy Kennedy and Avery Williams had the two hits for the Pioneers.
The Aggies and Pioneers will be back in action on Sunday, as they play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. to close out the series. Â Â
