DURANT, Okla. – The Aggie offense struck for 12 hits and eight runs in game one of the day against Newman to record their first win of the season. They then got a stellar performance from
Bethany Hines in game two against Pittsburg State as she pitched a shutout in the 1-0 win on Saturday.
The Aggies, who are now 2-2, responded from the struggles a day ago and recorded 12 hits in their win over Newman to start the day.
Callie Busby started it off with a single to center field to score her sister,
Brenna Busby in the top of the first. After the Jets scored two runs in the bottom of the inning, Cameron responded with a run in the second on a
Kaylyn Smith RBI single to cut the NU lead to just one.
A couple innings later, Smith recorded her second RBI single, driving in Abby Warren for the second time. Smith and pinch runner
Peyton Welch both scored on a
Lauren Mason base hit later in the inning to add to put CU back on top.
Annie Combs tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning on a homer to left center as the Aggies went up 7-3. Newman responded with a run in the sixth, but CU held the comeback at bay as they added another run in the seventh and secured the 8-4 win.
Not much offense was needed from the Black and Gold in game two as
Bethany Hines returned to her winning form as she threw an eight hit shutout while recording a career high 10 strikeouts.
The Aggies had just four hits on offense against the Gorillas, but one of those hits came on a C. Busby homer in the first inning, which would be all CU would need with the shutout from Hines.
Cameron will conclude the Southeastern Regional Invitation on Sunday as they face Washburn at noon and then Missouri Southern State at 2:30 p.m.
