NORMAN, Okla. – Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars for Divisions I, II and the NAIA have been announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America and three Aggie received honors.

Cameron's Dario Gabriel, Niels Sorensen, and Devin Tovey were named Scholar-Athletes for 2018 by the GCAA. The three players helped lead their team to four top-5 finishes during the 2018-19 season, including a first place finish at the St. Edward's Invitational.

Gabriel, a two-time Lone Star Conference Academic Player of the year and business administration major, recorded five top-20 finishes as a junior, including three in the top-10. He finished eighth with a 218 at the Lone Star Conference Championship. Gabriel finished the season with an 18-hole stroke average of 74.

Sorensen, a junior studying sport and exercise science, competed in 15 rounds for CU, averaging a score of 76.53. His best finish came at the UAFS Hardscrabble and his season low of 220 came at the WNMU Mustang Intercollegiate.

CU's third Scholar-Athlete, Tovey, a senior sport and exercise science major, competed in 25 rounds for the Aggies in 2018-19. He recorded four top-10 finishes, including a second place finish at the Ryan Palmer Invite. Tovey averaged a score of 75 per 18 holes of play.  

Including the Aggie trio, a new record number of student-athletes earned All-America Scholar status including 265 in Division I, 126 in Division II and 23 in NAIA.

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
