LAWTON, Okla. – The Aggie volleyball team fell in straight sets to Eastern New Mexico on Saturday afternoon, as they could not overcome a .073 attack percentage.
CU's offense struggled from the start, as they hit just .073 in the first, .105 in the second, and .033 in the third. That lack of offense and the efficient hitting of Eastern New Mexico (.319) led to the 50-24 kill differential. Cameron also committed five blocking errors and four ball handling errors in the contest.
The Black and Gold had no player reach five kills in the match, with
Ashleigh McFatridge,
Brandy Carr,
Paige Dixon, and
Sarah Wright each recording four, while
Katherine Manning had a team-best nine assists.
Brittnee Altic was the lone Aggie with a double digit stat category as she recorded 15 digs.
Set one started out back and forth until ENMU uses a 5-0 run to take a 10-5 lead early. However, CU came right back with a 6-2 stretch to cut the lead to just one. The two teams traded points before the Greyhounds ended the set with a 3-1 run, fueled by three kills to secure the 26-24 win.
The second set was similar to the first, but an early 7-1 run seemed to be the difference as Eastern took a 11-6 lead. They carried that momentum throughout the set and ended it with a Jasmine Gannon kill that gave them the 25-15 win.
In the third, Cameron battled to keep the match going for another set. After falling behind early, they tied the match at five, and despite multiple small runs by the Greyhounds, cut the lead to two at 9-7, 12-10, 15-12, 16-14 and thanks to a pair of kills from
Brittany Lawson and McFatridge got to within one at 17-16. From there, ENMU went on an 8-2 run to end the set 25-18 and win the match.
The Aggies move to 2-10 on the season and 0-2 in league play, while Eastern New Mexico is now 4-5 overall and 2-0 in Lone Star Conference contests.
Cameron will be on the road for their next four matches, beginning with a trip to Silver City, N.M. to face Western New Mexico on Sep. 14.
