LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron women's volleyball team is on the road this weekend as they face a pair of tough Lone Star Conference opponents in No. 14 Tarleton and DBU.

Against the Opponents:
In a series dating back to 1993, Cameron holds a 24-23 advantage over TSU. However, all of those wins came prior to 2008, which is when the Texans started their 20-match winning streak against the Black and Gold. Not only have they won 20 straight, but also their last six wins against CU have been in just three sets. Cameron's all-time series against DBU dates back to 1991 with the Aggies holding an 8-3 advantage. In recent years, it has been all Lady Patriots, as CU's last win came back in 2006, with DBU winning the last three meetings. Â
About the Aggies:
The Aggies enter the weekend with a 4-8 record and are on a three match losing streak after losing a pair to UAFS last Tuesday and Friday. They are also 1-3 against LSC divisional opponents, but this weekend they will face their first two non-divisional foes of the season.
Offensively, CU is averaging 11.2 kills and 10.6 assists per set while hitting .170 on the attack. They also average 1.3 service aces per frame with 53 total through 12 matches.
Shantalle Demirjian and
Arianna Navarrete led the offensive attack as both players average over 2.20 kills per set. Additionally,
Sarah Wright has averaged over 2.20 kills per set this season with 56 total in eight matches played.
Navarrete leads the Black and Gold with 17 service aces and has a team-high 2.81 points per set.
Katherine Manning leads CU with 5.45 assists per set, while junior
Desiree Marmolejo averages 3.76 helpers. Marmolejo and Manning are also second and third on the team in aces, with Marmolejo recording eight so far this season and Manning chipping in six.
The Aggies are averaging 1.88 blocks per set, with 79.0 total in 12 matches. Freshmen
Riana Blount and
Caitlyn Henderson lead the way with over 0.8 per frame, while
Walia Franklin is right there with them averaging 0.78 blocks. Libero
Peyton Little brings in a team-high 4.19 digs per frame, while Manning, Wright, and Navarrete all average over 2.00 digs per set.
Scouting the Texans:
Considered one of the top teams in the conference heading into the 2019 season, the 14th ranked Texans have started the year with an 8-4 record, which includes three wins against top-25 ranked opponents. They have also gone 3-1 to begin conference play with their lone lost coming in five sets against Texas A&M-Kingsville. TSU averages 12.9 kills and 12.1 assists while hitting .207 offensively, and are ranked in the top-3 of the LSC in blocks with 2.2 per set. Tatyana Tuialii-Umi has been their most dominant hitter, averaging almost 3.30 kills per set while hitting .275 on the attack. They use a two-setter system with both Kayla Brannon and Amari Franklin averaging over 4.8 assists per frame. Sofia Tonga averages just over one block per frame, while Tuialii-Umi is second on the team with 35 total blocks.
Scouting the Lady Patriots:
The Dallas Baptist University Lady Patriots have opened their first season in the Lone Star Conference with a 9-6 overall record and a 2-2 mark against league opponents. They average 11.5 kills on a .156 attack percentage while also recording 1.9 blocks per set as a team. Emma Eakin (2.91) and Brooke Clark (2.60) are the only Lady Patriots averaging over 2.00 kills per set, and Strealy Sizelove leads the squad with 5.62 assists per frame. Additionally, Kasey Holland and Lexie Houston have both totaled 38 blocks this season and Keely Hardin leads the team with 4.36 digs per set.
