Volleyball set for home matches against St. Edward's and St. Mary's

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron volleyball team returns home to the Aggie Gym looking to snap a five match losing streak as they host St. Edward's and St. Mary's this weekend.

Against the Opponents:
The Aggies and SEU have met up 15 times, with CU being on the winning side in nine matches. They have battled in the Aggie Gym just twice, with both teams earning a win. Cameron won the last meeting, which was in 2016 at a neutral site. Against the Rattlers, CU is 2-9 all-time and have lost eight straight matches to the team from San Antonio, Texas. The two teams have not played since 2012 and CU has not won a match in the series since 2000.

About the Aggies:
After falling in matches at Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International last weekend, Cameron is now 5-15 on the season and 1-9 against league opponents. During their five-match losing skid, CU has just three set wins, two of which came in a five set loss to UT Tyler. Freshman Arianna Navarrete leads CU with 158 kills, averaging 2.23 per set, and has a team-high 18 service aces on the season. Shantalle Demirjian is second on the squad with 152 kills, while Sarah Wright averages a team-best 2.30 kills per set. Katherine Manning is leads CU with 5.13 assists per frame, while Desiree Marmolejo averages 4.11 helpers; both of CU's setters have 12 aces on the year. Cameron has a three-headed monster in the middle that includes Riana Blount (51.0 blocks), Caitlyn Henderson (47.0), and Walia Franklin (47.0). Libero Peyton Little leads the Black and Gold with 3.82 digs per set, while five other Aggies average over 2.0 digs per frame.

Scouting the Hilltoppers:
St. Edward's is 12-6 entering the last weekend of October and have a 7-3 recorded against Lone Star Conference opponents. They are on a five match winning streak, but are 3-3 when playing away from the SEU Recreation and Convocation Center. Of their last five wins, the Hilltoppers have won all but won in three sets and that was against No. 23 Tarleton State who they beat in five sets. Senior Alexa McAndrew leads the team with 3.06 kills per set while also hitting .248 on the attack; she is one of three players averaging over 2.50 kills per set. Emily Tran leads the team with 6.00 assists per set, while Madison Heald is not far behind with an assist average of 4.82. McAndrew and Heald also lead SEU with 22 and 20 service aces respectively. The Hilltoppers have a trio of players with over 40 total blocks including Laura Doocy, who leads the team 52.0 blocks through 57 sets played.

Scouting the Rattlers:
St. Mary's enters the weekend with a 9-10 record and have gone 3-8 to start their first season in the LSC. Five of their nine wins have come at a neutral site and three on their home floor, as StMU has just a 1-6 record on the road. Three players are averaging over 2.40 kills per set, led by KK Payne, who has a team-high 191 kills this season. Bree Perry is towards the top of the conference with 9.49 assists per set and has a team-high 21 service aces through 17 matches played. Jasmine Sims (34.0) and Rachel McDonald (32.0) lead the team in total blocks, while Julia Deais is not far behind them with 29.0 total blocks. Libero Catherine Cruz leads the Rattlers with 3.68 digs per set, while Payne averages 2.14 to go along with her team-leading kills numbers.

Next Up:
Cameron hosts their final non-conference opponent of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 29, when they welcome Southern Nazarene into the Aggie Gym. First serve against the Crimson Storm is scheduled for 6 p.m.
