WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Cameron women's golf team claimed their best finish of the season as they placed second at the MSU Texas Invitational with a two-round score of 630.
Final Results
In the second round on Tuesday, Cameron carded a 318 18-hole score, which combined with their first round score of 318, gave them a 630 for the 36 holes. They finished 16 strokes back of the tournament winner Oklahoma Christian, who shot a 310 in the second round.
Iona Roska led the Aggies with a 151 two-round score after shooting a 76 on Tuesday. Her second place finish is the best of her two-year career at Cameron. Roska had eight pars and three birdies during her second round of play, giving her five birdies for the tournament.
Kyndall Morgan improved her play on Tuesday, shooting a team-low 75 in the second round to give her a 157 for the tournament. She tied for 11th individually, while
Kennedy Wheeler tied for 24th with a 36-hole score of 163. Morgan and Wheeler finished with six birdies each, while Cameron finished with a tournament-best 21.
After being tied for second after the first round,
Allison Duffin's play fell off, carding an 89 in the second round to finish one stroke back of her teammate Wheeler.
Gerdur Ragnarsdottir rounded out the CU five with a two-round score of 173 after an 84 in the second round.
Cameron's three individuals finished outside of the top-50, with
Sabrina Stedman finishing with a 181,
Molleejo Crain carding a 183, and
Hayden Brewer shooting a 193.
The Aggies finished three strokes ahead of third place finisher MSU Texas, while Angelo State finished in fourth with a 639 and Texas A&M-Commerce and Tarleton State tied for fifth with a pair of 640 scores.
Newman's Imkeleen Meyer jumped up 13 spots with a 71 on Tuesday to claim the individual title with a two-round score of 150. OC's Shaley Goad tied with Roska with a 151.
Cameron will have a long layoff until their next tournament. Their next event will be April 5-6 when they compete in the Western New Mexico Mustang Women's Intercollegiate in Phoenix, Ariz.
