WACO, Texas – The Cameron University women's tennis run at the Lone Star Conference Tournament came to an end on Friday afternoon, as they fell to Tarleton State 4-1.
The Aggies and TexAnn's started their match on Thursday afternoon, with CU winning two of the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. The No. 30 ranked pairing of
Alisa Savina and
Rebeka Velasova handled their opponent at one with a 6-1 win, while
Sara Petric and
Sarah Frendo won 6-3 at two.
However, Waco suffered off and on rain for the next almost 24 hours with the match not picking back up until 11:30 a.m. on Friday. Â The TexAnns evened the match up with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 2 singles spot. A 6-1, 6-1 win at five gave them a 2-1 lead over the Black and Gold. Velasova lost her first set at two 6-1, but battled in set two before falling 7-5. The No. 7 ranked Frendo gave her opposition a fight at one, but eventually fell 6-4, 7-5, giving TSU the 4-1 win.
Cameron finishes the 2019 spring season with a 9-14 overall record. Despite finishing fourth in the LSC standings, they were not ranked in the last regional poll, meaning their loss to TSU effectively ended the season. Â
