RICHARDSON, Texas – The Cameron men's cross country team was picked to finish fifth in this year's Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll that was released on Thursday.
West Texas A&M claimed the top spot in the rankings, coming in with 32 first place votes. Dallas Baptist University, who was the only other team to receive top nods with six, came in second in the preseason poll, followed by Tarleton and Lubbock Christian. CU was a full 100 points ahead of sixth place team Western New Mexico, while A&M-Commerce, Oklahoma Christian, St. Edward's, and Eastern New Mexico rounded out the top-10. Â
The CU men are coming off one of their best seasons to date, winning three races during the fall of 2018 and finishing in third in the LSC Championship, which was the best finish in program history. The good news for the Aggie faithful is that they return almost all of their top runners from a year ago. The most notable of those returners is senior
James Majenge.
Majenge won five straight races to begin the fall including coming in first at the league race by a full 15 seconds. The Secunda, South Africa native was awarded the league's Newcomer of the Year honor and was an All-Conference runner. Other top CU runners
Roy Kipkorir,
Eduardo Gutierrez,
Steffen Riestenpatt, and
Celso Ramirez among others will join Majenge as the Aggies look to build on a strong 2018.
Cameron begins their new season at the MSU Endurance House XC Stampede in Wichita Falls, Texas on Sep. 5. They will then host the Aggie Duels on Sep. 13 before heading to the Chile Pepper Festival on Oct. 5 hosted by the University of Arkansas. CU's final meet before the LSC Championship is the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational on Oct. 12 and then the league race will be held in Silver City, N.M. on Oct. 26. Â The South Central Regional Meet will be in Canyon, Texas on Nov. 9 and then Nationals will be held in Sacramento, Calif. on Nov. 22.
