Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cameron notches division win behind Schreiner's 20 points

TYLER, Texas – The Cameron men's basketball team snapped a four-game losing skid with a 71-52 Lone Star Conference division win over UT Tyler on Saturday.

After falling in their first division game just two days prior, the Aggies came out firing in the first half and finished the game shooting 45 percent from the field. They were 10-23 from long range and 7-10 from the charity stripe in their third win of the season.

Sophomore Brock Schreiner led the way with 20 points, his second 20-plus point outing of the season. The Choctaw, Okla. native was 7-11 from the floor and 4-7 from long range. He was one of three Aggies with double-figures scoring outings.

Kendall Scott chipped in 12 points on 5-9 shooting to go along with six rebounds, while Connor Slater added a career-high 10 points with his team-high eight rebounds.

Cameron opened up the game on a 15-1 run that was spearheaded by the freshman Slater, who scored his 10 points in the first eight minutes. CU led 18-8 at the under 12-minute media timeout and extended that lead to 24-8 thanks to a 6-0 run after the break in action. The Aggies continued their strong play the rest of the half and led 43-23 at the half.

Schreiner had 15 points on 6-6 shooting from the field and was 3-3 from long range at halftime. He and Slater, who had 10 points at the break, led an Aggie team that shot 58.6 percent from the floor and was 7-12 from three-point range through the first 20 minutes of play.

On the other end of the court, UTT shot just 28.6 percent from the field and was 3-13 from three in the first half. Ty Glover led the home team with 10 points at the break.

Cameron's paced slowed in the second half, shooting just 32.3 percent from the floor and going 3-11 from three. UT Tyler increased their field goal percentage to 46.2 percent but was just 0-10 from long range in the final 20 minutes of action. Despite the poor shooting, CU was outscored by just one point, 29-28, in the second half as they held on for the 71-52 victory.

UT Tyler finished the game shooting 37 percent from the field while going 3-23 from deep and 9-15 from the charity stripe. Glover finished with a team-best 14 points on 5-15 shooting from the field.

The Aggies will return home with a 3-9 overall record, a 2-4 Lone Star Conference mark, and a 1-1 record against their division opponents. Next up for CU will be a matchup with St. Mary's on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 7:30 p.m.
