LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron Aggie men keep their postseason hopes alive with a big 65-62 win over Oklahoma Christian on Thursday night behind a career-high from senior
Tyler Williams.
Â
After finding a way to upset the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions on Saturday afternoon at the Aggie gym, Cameron University continued their homestand as they played host to OC. The Aggies entered this matchup looking to stay alive in the Lone Star Conference postseason race. Finding themselves on the outside looking in on the conference tournament picture, the Aggies needed to earn a season split with the Eagles. The last time these two teams met, the Eagles were able to defeat CU 63-52.
Â
In the first half of this Thursday night clash, CU put together a defensive masterpiece. The Black and Gold only allowed 24 first-half points. The Eagles only shot 32 percent from the floor and a lowly 30 percent from deep.
Â
Tyler Williams started his big night with a game-high seven points in the first twenty minutes. Williams' day was far from finished, as his second-half performance was even more spectacular. The senior from Illinois finished the night with a career-high 23 points, including two rebounds, and three assists. Like the rest of the Aggies, Williams was huge on the defensive end earning three steals and a block.
Â
Jordan Lewis added even more senior leadership on the floor for the Aggies, as he poured in 12 points. Including crucial second-half 3 pointers to help ice the win. Lewis finished with four trey's, and four rebounds, to go along with his three assists.
Â
The CU defense was able to score 15 points off Eagle turnovers. OC turned it over 15 times, to the Aggies eight. Despite Will Lienhard protecting the paint with six blocks, the Aggies were still able to muster 22 points inside. The CU defense only gave up 16 points in the paint.
Â
The Black and Gold controlled the lead for 30 minutes tonight, in a game that saw just six lead changes. CU saw 30 points come off their bench, while no Eagles scored off the pine.
Â
Up next for the Aggies, they end their home slate with a rematch against UAFS at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, that will double as Senior Day as well as Homecoming for Cameron.
