Aggies drop three-set match at TWU

DENTON, Texas – The Aggie volleyball team struggled to get going on Friday night, falling in straight sets to Texas Woman's to extend their losing skid to 13 matches.

Cameron entered the weekend still looking for their first Lone Star Conference win and to snap their losing streak that stretches back to the first week of the year. However, they would have to take down a tough Texas Woman's team to do those things, and the Pioneers had other ideas on their home floor.

TWU pleased the home crowd by hitting over .300 on the attack and earning 10 service aces by keeping the Black and Gold off balance. Cameron hit just .160 on the attack while also totaling six blocks, right around their season average.

Arianna Navarrete continued her strong play over the last few weeks, totaling 10 kills with just two errors, good for a .348 attack percentage; she also had a team-high seven digs in the loss. Middle Caitlyn Henderson was near perfect, with five kills on seven attacks with no errors and added five total blocks to lead the squad.

Additionally, freshman setter Noemie Narbonne led the Aggies with 17 assists while Bergen Campbell, Jacee Stelter, and Natalia Araujo each added two blocks to the defensive effort.

Texas Woman's opened the first set with an 8-2 lead and quickly stretched that to 13-3 after a five-point rally. After scoring seven straight a few plays later, the home team coasted to a 25-12 set one win.

The second set was early clos with the Aggies jumping ahead by one (9-8) on an Araujo kill. A 7-1 TWU rally put the Pioneers on top 15-10 and then they closed out the set by scoring nine of the final 10 points to win 25-14.

TWU carried that momentum into the third, opening with an 8-1 lead. That lead quickly extended to 11 at 19-8 just a few plays later. Cameron showed fight late in the third, using an 8-2 stretch to get to within five points (21-16). The Aggies were able to cut that deficit to four after a kill by Navarrete and a TWU error forced a timeout by the home team. A pair of kills out of the break by Monica Woods closed things out for the home team 25-20.

Cameron is now 0-5 in league play and 1-14 overall. They now face DBU on Saturday, Oct. 2, with first serve scheduled for 1 p.m. in Dallas, Texas.
