Cameron places third at Oklahoma Intercollegiate

LAWTON – The Cameron women's golf team played a one-day, 36-hole tournament on Monday at the Lawton Country Club, finishing in third place with a score of 606.

Originally scheduled to be played on Monday and Tuesday, the Aggies' annual Oklahoma Intercollegiate was pushed to a one-day event with the threat of storms looming on Tuesday afternoon in Lawton.

Cameron had a strong opening round during the morning session, shooting a 298, just one stroke back of the leader after 18 holes, Midwestern State. The Aggies then shot a 308 in the second round, allowing Angelo State, who shot a 297 during the second 18 holes, to move up into second. The third-place finish was good for the squad's best finish of the fall.

Gerdur Ragnarsdottir led Cameron and the field with an even par (71) in the opening round but carded an 83 in the second. Her 154 two-round score was good for an 11th place finish.

Cameron had three other players finish in the top-11 individually. Ashley Davis led the way with a 150, posting back-to-back scores of 75 during CU's home tournament. The third-year player tied for sixth place while Ellie Fellers placed ninth and Iona Roska finished in 10th. Fellers had one of the best scores of the first round, carding a 73 and followed that with a 78 for a 151 total score. Roska was one stroke back with a 152 after improving from her first round 79 with a 73 in the second round.

Additionally, Emma Englefield rounded out the CU lineup with a 167, while Cameron's individual competitors Molleejo Crain and Malerie Nyberg carded scores of 160 and 170 respectively.

Ragnarsdottir had the second most birdies of the tournament with five, while Davis led Cameron with 25 made pars during the 36-hole event.

The Mustangs led the whole way, winning the event by 11 strokes. ASU finished just three strokes ahead of the Aggies, who edged out Oklahoma Christian by three for third.

MSU's Juanita Gomez took home the individual medalist honor with a one-over 143, one stroke ahead of ASU's Maria Sierra Sanz.

The Oklahoma Intercollegiate concludes the fall schedule for Cameron. They will pick up their 2021-22 campaign in the spring and compete for the Lone Star Conference Championship in April.
